See below for an overview- As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs for construction projects.
Your role is crucial in ensuring that the company bids competitively, manages resources efficiently, and delivers successful projects.
You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to analyze project specifications, review blueprints, and create comprehensive cost estimates.
Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and industry knowledge are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation:
Analyze project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to determine the scope of work, labor requirements, and materials needed for each construction project.
Quantity Takeoff:
Quantify and take off materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs from construction drawings and specifications.
Vendor and Supplier Management:
Identify potential vendors and suppliers, request quotes, and negotiate pricing to obtain competitive bids for materials and services.
Cost Analysis:
Analyze historical data, market trends, and industry benchmarks to ensure accurate cost projections and maintain cost databases for future reference.
Pricing Proposals:
Prepare detailed and competitive cost estimates to submit as part of bidding proposals for construction projects.
Value Engineering:
Collaborate with project teams to propose cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality and functionality.
Bid Review:
Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure compliance with project requirements and budgetary constraints.
Risk Assessment:
Identify potential project risks and provide cost estimates for contingency planning.
Project Budgeting:
Assist project managers in developing comprehensive budgets based on estimated costs.
Documentation:
Maintain detailed records of all estimates, bids, and correspondence related to construction projects.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated with industry trends, construction methodologies, and cost estimation techniques to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Client Interaction:
Participate in meetings with clients to discuss cost estimates, address queries, and provide insights into project costs.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree.
Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
Proven experience as a construction estimator, preferably in a construction company or general contractor firm.
Proficiency in using estimation software and tools.
Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry regulations.
Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Attention to detail and accuracy in calculations.
Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
Time management and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Familiarity with construction contract documents and bid processes.
Ability to work independently on projects ranging from $1,000,000 to $10,000,000.
Ability to work well with other team members and collaborate.
